Sing for Joy!

Have you always wondered what it would be like to sing a solo?
Do you want to become more confident and comfortable on a stage?

Do you want to be free to express yourself, to live your best life?
Do you yearn to step into the spotlight of your own radiance?

Would you like to improve the way you sing?

Do you want your performances to shine?

SIng for Joy Voice Classes are a way to get to know your voice - and your self - to stretch vocally, emotionally, or whatever way is poignant for you personally, to sing with others or to sing solo, all while focusing on the positive aspects of your voice, your sound and your expression.
  • Voice Classes are open to ALL LEVELS of ability.
  • Our students have ranged in age from 14 to 79 years old.
We sing together, then each person sings solo, giving a little performance sizzle to the experience, as we learn from and for each other... and magical results can happen! Come on and sing a little!

Learning in a group setting is so valuable for singers. Listening to other voices in an intimate and safe setting is an invitation to become more aware of your own voice, what it can do, how it can change and grow.

A variety of voice work will be covered during each series, whatever is most supportive of overall progress. This means the class is "tailor made" to the participants, and no two "Voice Classes" will be alike!  This organic curriculum is an evolving process, as we respond to what students bring to the experience. Each person will declare their personal goals so the content will support where you are and where you are going. Here is some list of what's available:
  1. Performance - each week you will sing for the class in a loving & supportive environment, with an accompanist, and receive feedback and tips.
  2. Breathing to support your sound.
  3. Vocal workouts & exercises for flexibility and strength.
  4. Learn new songs, a variety of ways to practice your songs, and perform in class.
  5. Sound Games and exercises to get you out of your head and into your experience.
  6. Vocal Anatomy - the miracle of making sound.
  7. What is "Twang"?  What is "Nasality"?  What is "Belting"?  How and when do you use various voice qualities?
  8. Vocal toning. How is it valuable? When to use it and why?
  9. Vocal improvisation. Find your vocal feet with no road map. What could possibly be more fun?!?
  10. Simple physical yoga-type exercises to "open the heart" and chest, and keep core vocal support muscles strong and ready to help you sing your best.
  11. Vocal tips and tricks; performance tips
  12. Interpretation & phrasing - turning notes in music, expressing the emotion of the song and making it your own.

Why do we call it "Sing For Joy"?

  • Because you are singing to experience more joy into your life.

  • Because you are singing to remember the joy that you are.

"I appreciated the voice [class] and the way you are conducting it.
Your method is gentle and supportive, especially for those who are needing more confidence and support....  " -S.C.

"When I took my first voice class with Lyte and Terri last fall, I was still recovering from an accident I had three years ago. I was walking with 2 canes and could barely drag myself into the room. I found the class, both students and teachers very friendly and supportive. My love for singing inspired me to do more and take more chances not only by expressing myself through singing but in other creative areas as well. Self acceptance led to letting go of fear and walking with more confidence, strength  and purpose. The voice class has assisted me in breaking through barriers and embracing not only my life more fully, but the lives and aspirations of others as well. My husband said that the change in me has made him much happier too!"   - A.M.

The Source of Joy

No one knows what makes the soul wake up so happy!

Maybe a dawn breeze has blown
the veil from the face of God.

A thousand new moons appear.
Roses open laughing.

There's no answer to any of this.
No one knows the source of joy.

~ from a poem by Rumi

You are awesome!

We have fallen into the place
where everything is music.
Stop the words now.
Open the window in the center of your chest,
and let the spirits fly in and out.
